Antarctica

Antarctica is not a continent, but an ice shelf/land mass more than 50 meters high that encloses the world's oceans. Antarctica is rightly often called "the end of the world".

There are many ships that have completed their voyage along the coast of Antarctica and measured the distance to about 111,000 km. The equator, which is said to be the widest part of the earth, measures 40,000 km...

“And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.”

World map in polar projection (Azimuthal Equidistant Projection)

With the North Pole in the center, the map shows the continents in proportional size and Antarctica as an encircling ring of land/ice.

With the South Pole at the center, the continents are deformed beyond recognition.

If there were such a thing as a northern and southern hemisphere, the maps in this projection would show equally correct proportions regardless of whether the projection was centered around the north or south pole.

There is no "South Pole". Antarctica is not an independent continent.
