Antarctica

Antarctica is not a continent, but a wall of ice more than 50 meters high that encloses the world's oceans.

Antarctica is rightly often called the "end of the world".

World map in polar projection (Azimuthal Equidistant Projection)

With the North Pole in the center, the map shows the continents in proportional size and Antarctica as an encircling ring of land/ice.

With the South Pole at the center, the continents are deformed beyond recognition.

If there were such a thing as a northern and southern hemisphere, the maps in this projection would show equally correct proportions regardless of whether the projection was centered around the north or south pole.

There is no "South Pole". Antarctica is not an independent continent.
